ROSAMUND PIKE

Date of Birth: January 28, 1979

The only child of musician parents, London-born Rosamund Pike was encouraged to embrace the arts at an early age. After learning to play the piano and the cello, Pike began acting at 16 when she was accepted into The National Youth Theatre. Her first lead role came at 18 when she was cast in a production of Romeo and Juliet.

She continued her education at Wadham College where she graduated with a degree in English literature. Rosamund continued acting on stage, appearing in lead roles in many popular productions at the Oxford Playhouse. She also traveled to Tokyo to appear in productions of The Taming of the Shrew and MacBeth.

Rosamund then made the transition from the stage to television, and starred in many mini-dramas in the UK. Her big screen debut came in 2002 when she was cast as Bond girl Miranda Frost in Die Another Day, despite never having watched any of the films in the spy series. Rosamund admitted feeling intimidated by working with veteran actors Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry and Judi Dench in the movie. The role landed her international attention and earned her the 2003 Empire Award for Best Newcomer.

She went on to star in Promised Land (2004), The Libertine (2004), Pride & Prejudice (2005), Doom (2005), Fracture (2007) and Fugitive Pieces (2008). It was while working on Pride & Prejudice that Pike met her director Joe Wright (Atonement), to whom she became engaged. They were scheduled to be married in 2008, but the wedding was called off. The fall-out didn't seem to slow her down much though.

She went on to star in major films such as Barney's Version (2010), Johnny English Reborn (2011), The Big Year (2011), and Hector and the Search for Happiness (2014). In 2015, Rosamund received her first Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA Award nominations for her outstanding performance in Gone Girl (2014).

She then followed with the drama A United Kingdom (2017), which is based on a true story and also stars David Oyelowo. Her most recent credits include roles in the western Hostiles (2018) opposite Christian Bale, the terrorist thriller 7 Days in Entebbe (2018) alongside Daniel Brühl and another terrorist-themed thriller, Beirut (2018) with Jon Hamm.

She then starred in A Private War (2018), followed by Radioactive(2019), in which she played the role of Marie Curie and showcased her Nobel Prize-winning work that changed the world.

In addition to being a talented actress, Rosamund is also a skilled cellist and speaks German and French fluently.
