Born: May 28, 1979

Nonso Anozie was born and raised in London, England. He attended the Central School of Speech and Drama in 2002 and following graduation he played the title role in a professional production of William Shakespeare's King Lear. In 2004, Nonso won the Ian Charleston Award for his performance in a production of Othello.

After flexing his acting muscles onstage, Nonso made the jump to film in 2007 with The Last Legion and Joe Wright’s Atonement, which also starred James McAvoy, Kiera Knightley, and Benedict Cumberbatch. His role in the film was small, but it paved the way for him to earn the leading role in Cass (2008), a British crime drama film.

More success followed in in 2011 and 2012 with Nonso starring in Conan the Barbarian (2011) as the pirate Artus, and as Xaro Xhoan Daxos in Game of Thrones (2012). He also appeared in the science fiction action film Ender’s Game (2013) alongside Asa Butterfield. In 2015, Nonso made two more appearances in the fantasy movies Cinderella and Pan.

More recently, Nonso starred in the Prime Video film Guava Island (2019), playing the antagonist Red Cargo alongside Donald Glover and Rihanna. He also starred in the biographical comedy-drama The Laundromat (2019), where he acted opposite Gary Oldman and Meryl Streep.

In 2019, Nonso was cast in the leading role of Tommy Jepperd on Netflix's fantasy series Sweet Tooth (2021), opposite Christian Convery. The pilot was filmed in New Zealand in 2019, and the rest of the episodes were completed in 2020 during the Coronavirus pandemic. ~Cassandra Coleman
