ALISON SUDOL

Date of Birth: December 23, 1984

Alison Sudol may have a following for her musical endeavors, but her role in the Harry Potter spinoff franchise Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them introduced her to an astonishingly wider audience.

Born in Seattle, Alison grew up in Los Angeles and quickly followed a passion to become a singer-songwriter. To date, she has released three albums under the moniker A Fine Frenzy, with her debut effort being One Cell in the Sea (2007). A Fine Frenzy has performed on and/or been featured on The Tonight Show, How I Met Your Mother, House and So You Think You Can Dance.

In the same year as the release of her first album, she won her first onscreen part with a role in a CSI: NY episode. While she steadily devoted herself to music, she also dedicated time to acting. Following her CSI role, she earned the part of Kaya in four 2014 episodes of Amazon's Golden Globe- and Emmy-winning series Transparent, which stars Jeffrey Tambor. While discussing the series with Nylon in March 2015, she praised Jeffrey and said he's "magic."

The next year, Alison won a lead role in the thriller series Dig, alongside Anne Heche. She plays Emma Wilson in 10 episodes of the series, and in her Nylon interview, said working on the show was a "total ride." She added: "Reading the script was like reading a great book; I didn't want to put it down."

Also in 2015, she took a part in the drama Other People's Children with Chad Michael Murray.

Alison had a breakthrough year in 2016. She played Nadia in the dramedy Between Us with Adam Goldberg, and after auditioning in New York and doing screen tests in the U.K., lent her talents to the supporting cast of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is adapted from a J.K. Rowling book. In the film, she portrays Queenie Goldstein, who's the younger sister of Tina (Katherine Waterston). Eddie Redmayne plays the lead in the film, which is directed by David Yates and takes place in New York before the Harry Potter franchise.

In an October 2016 interview with Pottermore.com, Alison discussed the film and her character Queenie. She said, "I came into this just so deeply in love with Queenie as a character and wanting to be a part of this with every ounce of me." In 2018, she reprised her role as Queenie in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018).

The musician-turned-actress revealed to Nylon that in her spare time, she enjoys yoga. She also discussed her acting goals. She said, "I want to go into the margins; into those moments where there's snot hanging out of your nose and things aren't cute and you're not pretty. I'm all for messy. That's what I want to explore."
