I would have not hesitated to give this film 5 stars were it not for it disintigrating in the last 15 minutes into some bizarre attempt at poetic profundity. All players are excellent in a rivetting, blood-drenched 7/8 but the ending left me frustrated...like great sex with no orgasm. I just hope the DVD has an "alternate ending" that makes a modicum of sense.

To me, the Cohen brothers are hit or miss. That's how I feel about their films. You either love them, like Fargo or Raising Arizona or hate them, like Brother Where Art Thou. Well, No Country for Old Men falls in the crack. From fist seeing the trailer, I couldn't wait to sit down in the dark and enjoy this one. And for the fist two thirds of the film it didn't disappoint. Josh Brolin (who I'd just seen do a great job in American Gangster) was good, and Javier Bardem, a Hanibal-like evil bad guy was great. Again the Cohens throw in the small little scenes and dialogue that have nothing to do with the story, but add so much to the delight of watching the film. And just when things were rea
