Café de Flore Jean-Marc Vallée has created another magnificent piece of cinematic gratification with top-notch performances and fabulous backdrop music. The film engages the viewer in two parallel stories. The central story situated in present-day Montreal revolves around the split of hotshot star DJ Antoine (Kevin Parent) and Carole (Hélène Florent) neither of whom has come to terms with their break-up evidenced through a guilt ridden new relationship and the torment of bizarre dreams. The secondary narrative set in the late 60’s in Paris takes a glimpse into the life of Jacqueline (Vanessa Paradis), a single mother obsessed with protecting and raising a child with Down’s syndrome.
