A 12-year-old orphan named Momo (Ibrahima Gueye) is brought to Madame Rosa (Sophia Loren), who looks after a number of children. She knows he steals from people, so she hesitates, then agrees to give him a trial period. Although he doesn't appreciate the opportunity at first, he slowly grows to realize that he couldn't be in a better situation than with Madame Rosa.
