Sofia Vassilieva is an actress of Russian descent who was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. By age three, she was reading in Russian and English and speaking French, and is now fluent in all three languages. She began taking ballet at age three, piano at age seven, and riding horses at age 10. She lived in Minnesota, Oregon, Arizona and Utah before moving to Los Angeles at age 11. She participated in the International Model and Talent Competition in New York in 2000, where she won the Child Actress of the Year award and was runner-up for Child Model of the Year.

Vassilieva appeared in an episode of drama series The Agency in 2001, and played Cindy Brady in The Brady Bunch in the White House in 2002. In 2003, she starred in Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime, TV movies based on the children's books. She described playing Eloise as a "54-day vacation." She landed a role in the film Day Zero (2007), starring Elijah Wood and Chris Klein, and has been a regular cast member of TV series Medium since 2005. For her role in Medium, she won a Hollywood Young Artist Award in 2006 for Best Supporting Actress and was nominated in 2005 for a SyFy Portal Genre Award for Best Young Actor/Actress.

A frequent traveler, Vassilieva had visited Austria, Italy, France, Canada, England, Japan, Spain and Russia by age 14. She lists Julie Andrews (with whom she worked in the Eloise movies) and Marion Cotillard to be among her favorite actresses. She says acting is something she wants to do for as long as she lives. Vassilieva is interested in yoga, and has been a vegetarian since 2004.
