Sean Patrick Thomas studied acting at New York University and became a certified Actor Combatant. He made appearances in many stage productions with the Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Hanger Theatre and The Alliance Theatre.

From stage he moved on to television and film, appearing on New York Undercover and landing a recurring role on the daytime soap opera One Life to Live.

For film, Sean quickly made his way up from minor roles to starring roles. Small parts in Courage Under Fire (1996) and Conspiracy Theory (1997) proved his worth, and it wasn't long until he began starring in films such as Cruel Intentions (1999), Save the Last Dance (2001) alongside Julia Stiles, Barbershop and the sequel, Barbershop 2: Back in Business (2004).

On television, he's played recurring and starring roles in a number of series, such as Detective Temple Page on The District from 2000 to 2004, Alan Townsend on Reaper (2009), Solomon Vessida on Ringer (2012) and Professor Adam Macalester on Vixen (2015 to 2016).

Most recently, he played a police detective named Cooper in the hit horror movie, The Curse of La Llorona (2019).

In April 2006 Sean married actress Aonika Laurent. They have two children together.
