Born: January 11, 1991
Born in Xi'an, China, Poppy Liu moved to Minnesota with her family at the age of two while her father pursued a second PhD. When she was 14, the family returned to China. She later attended Colgate University, where she studied women’s studies and theater, graduating in 2013.
Poppy, who is queer, went on to found the production company Collective Sex, which focuses on breaking down stigma surrounding sex and identity. In 2018, she debuted her short film Names of Women in New York City, and the project later toured college campuses and reproductive health organizations across the United States.
In 2019, Poppy landed a starring role on the sitcom Sunnyside. She has also appeared on New Amsterdam, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Better Call Saul. She later took on recurring roles as a blackjack dealer in Hacks.
In 2026 she appeared alongside Keke Palmer and Demi Moore in I Love Boosterson the big screen.
After having an abortion in 2015, which inspired her to perfom free services as a doula for colored women. Poppy gave birth in 2024, but has chosen to keep the name of the baby's father private, as well as the name of her romantic partner.
