JAMES BROLIN

Date of Birth: July 18, 1940

Perhaps best known for his television work, Los Angeles native James Brolin grew up close to the 20th Century Fox studios. When his parents invited a director/producer over for dinner, James impressed him to the point where he was invited to audition for a film role. James took up the offer and ended up winning the part.

Exhilarated by the experience, James decided to make acting his career and made his way to the University of California to major in theater arts. While working hard at his studies, he earned a regular gig on the television series Bus Stop, which led to a contract with 20th Century Fox.

For five years, James played bit parts in numerous feature films, but it wasn't until landing the role of Dr. Steven Kiley on the hit series Marcus Welby, M.D. that he would finally find stardom. The role would eventually earn him two Golden Globes and an Emmy over the seven years the show was in production. He went on to star for five years as Peter McDermott, the suave general manager of another hit series Hotel, and also starred in movies-of-the-week based on the series Gunsmoke and Hart to Hart.

Though he spent most of his career on the small screen, James has made some notable appearances on the big screen such as in the films Von Ryan's Express (1965), Fantastic Voyage (1966), The Boston Strangler (1968), Westworld (1973), Gable and Lambard (1976), Capricorn One (1978), The Amityville Horror (1979) and Night of the Juggler (1980).

He has had starring roles in the Academy Award-winning drama Traffic (2000) and the comedy The Master of Disguise (2002) opposite Dana Carvey. More recently, he starred in The 33 (2015) and was hilarious as the father of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in the feature comedy Sisters (2015). He'll appear in 2016's The Steps next.

No stranger to strolling down the aisle, James has been married three times. His first two unions produced three children including actor Josh Brolin. In the mid-90s, he began dating Barbra Streisand, and by 1998 the two were married. Besides acting James is a licensed pilot, breeds horses, and has designed and built several homes, a restaurant and a bookstore.
