Dom DeLuise

Date of Birth: August 1, 1933

He's fat, he's funny and he's had a brilliant career in comedies, spoofs, cartoons and even cooking.

Dom DeLuise was born in Brooklyn, New York and later attended the High School of Performing Arts. His first professional acting job was as "Bernie the Dog" in a children's show. Not surprisingly, he was soon considering a new career as a high school biology teacher.

Luckily, Broadway beckoned with Here's Love and there was a guest spot on the Gary Moore Show where he played Domenic the Great, a goofy and clumsy but lovable magician. Then came the Carol Burnett Show and Bob Newhart Show and predictably, The Dom DeLuise Show.

But Dom never really came into his own till he teamed up with another wacky lunatic named Mel Brooks, who let Dom run wild in The Twelve Chairs, Blazing Saddles, Robin Hood: Men in Tights and others.

Ann Bancroft, who is married to Mel Brooks, directed Dom herself in Fatso, a gigantic vehicle built especially for him. Dom went on to direct himself in Hot Stuff.

Wherever he appears, even as a voice (An American Tail, All Dogs Go to Heaven), he is outrageously funny and loved by audiences and critics. However, nothing will ever top his full-blown buffoonery in New York at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1995, when he frolicked as Frosh the Jailer in Die Fledermaus. The audience split themselves laughing.

Dom's girth bears witness to his passion for food, food glorious food! He has extended his many talents to write a cookbook called Eat This: It Will Make You Better.
