BRANDON ROUTH

Date of Birth: October 9, 1979

With just one small film role to his credit, Brandon Routh caused quite a sensation in October 2004 when it was announced that he was cast in the title role of the new film, Superman Returns (2006).

Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Routh grew up in nearby Norwalk. He gained acting experience by performing in various productions at the Norwalk Theater of Performing Arts. Anxious to begin his career as a professional actor, Routh dropped out of his studies at the University of Iowa in 1999 to move to Los Angeles. His first role was a guest appearance on the ABC-TV sitcom Odd Man Out. In 2000, he became a regular on the MTV series Undressed. After a guest appearance on the hit series Gilmore Girls, Routh was chosen in May 2001 to originate the role of Seth Anderson on the daytime soap opera One Life to Live.

He remained on the show for about a year before striking out to advance his career with guest appearances on established nighttime series such as Cold Case, Will & Grace and Oliver Beene. In 2004, after landing a small role as Tim Peters in the movie Deadly (2005), based on Canadian child murderers Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka, Routh won the role of Superman. Although the producers had searched in several countries and considered many well-known actors for the role, Routh, with his good looks and 6'3" physique, won the role after several screen tests. Since then, he's kept busy with roles in film and on television, including a recurring part on the series Chuck and the role of Joe Logan in the sports movie Crooked Arrows (2012).

On November 24, 2007, Routh married actress Courtney Ford.

In his spare time, Routh enjoys reading, swimming, bicycling, and playing soccer and basketball.
