Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as Jack and Rose in TitanicThe panel of wood that saved Kate Winslet's character Rose at the end of the movie Titanic has been auctioned off for an incredible amount -- $718,750 at Heritage Auctions’ Treasures from Planet Hollywood event last weekend. A chiffon dress Kate wore in the final scenes went for $125,000.

There's been a lot of speculation in regards to whether the balsa wood panel prop, often referred to as a door, would have held both Rose and Jack (Leo DiCaprio). According to Heritage Auctions, "The prop measures approx. 8' long (2.4m) and 41" (1m) wide."

Titanic panel, made of balsa woodIn 2022 director James Cameron took part in a test with a team of scientists and stunt people to discover whether both could have fit. Cameron told Postmedia, “We took two stunt people who were the same body mass of Kate and Leo and we put sensors all over them and inside them and we put them in ice water and we tested to see whether they could have survived through a variety of methods and the answer was: there was no way they both could have survived. Only one could survive."

The auction contained a number of props from other movies, including the whip from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which went for $525,000. A set of three Sankara stones from the same film sold for $100,000 and Bill Murray's red-rose bowling ball from Kingpin earned $350,000.

Tobey Maguire's black symbiote suit from Spider-Man 3 and an axe used used by Jack Nicholson in The Shining each sold for $125,000. The auction was extremely successful, earning a total of $15.68 million. ~Alexandra Heilbron

7k is considered $7000. 700k is $700,000. Common slang terms specifically denoting $1,000 U.S. Dollars: G (shortened form of "grand") grand. K (from kilo; typically prefixed with a number ≥ 2, e.g. 50K, which would equal $50,000)

I absolutely LOVE Kate Winslet!! Who better to star in this movie as Rose -- such an excellent choice. Is it known if the true Rose 'n Jack used the door to keep afloat?? Testing the floating door as per weight of Leo & Kate would prove nothing ---- you'd need to know the exact size & weight of Rose & Jack to know this for sure. Also --- a prop was used -- not the actual panel or door from the Titanic. One of BEST movies ever produced!!!

Terry there is no "true" Rose and Jack. The scene is 100% fictional. The characters of Rose and Jack are 100% fictional. No real person survived Titanic floating on a door. Titanic, the movie, isn't a documentary. It's a fictional story set against a real event- the sinking of the Titanic.

No human can stand to be alive on that very cold water and ambient temp. Esp. Floating on balsa door??? Shipboard door are never built of balsa wood.

Willow --- You're right! My bad ---- sorry. They don't usually test these theories unless the details are taken from true facts from a story. One of the greatest movies of all time.
