David Letterman was frightened by Green Day drummer

David LettermanDavid Letterman returned to The Late Show on Monday night as a guest, reuniting with his successor, Stephen Colbert.

When Stephen asked what stood out as the great musical performances during David's time on the show, David reminisced about his time as the host, saying the music was one of the great parts of the show, and that he really misses getting to hear the top bands up live and close. He added, "I was thinking about this. Green Day. Whenever Green Day would be on, I was frightened by the drummer,” Letterman remembered, referring to Tré Cool.

“Because whenever they would finish, he would charge the desk and lunge at me, to the point where I assumed he was kidding around or perhaps he wanted to hurt me," he recalled with laughter. "Looking back at that now, I just think, Wow, what a great experience that was.”

David Letterman has since gone on to do four seasons of specials for Netflix, titled My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, interviewing and spending time with huge names such as Barack Obama, George Clooney, Jay-Z, Ryan Reynolds, Ellen DeGeneres, Shah Rukh Khan, Robert Downey Jr., Volodymyr Zelenskyy and more. ~Alexandra Heilbron

I loved David's sense of humor! He was sorely missed. I used to stay up late to watch him. I've gotta get motivated to stay up late again! Thanks, David.

I used to work at a music store in Berkeley where Green Day used to shop. They were cool, except Tre Cool ironically didn't live up to his name. He comes across as awkward.
